Joe Miller is still the best bomber
24th August, POZZOLENGO.– He is still the best. Joe Miller (ENG) has won the sixth LDET tournament held at Chervó Golf San Vigilio in the city of Pozzolengo after beating the English Scott Beaven for 2 sets to 1. The final has been hotly contested and Miller reached a mark of 377 yards to win Beaven, number 3 in LDET ranking.
The sky was overcast in the morning and a disturbing rain started to fall at amateurs time. Despite this, the hitters were well disposed to show their talent again. Competing in group 1 was David Hopf (AUT), Goran Hellström (SWE), Elli Federico (ITA, best amateur) and Dewald Lubbe, the winner of the last LDET tournament in Czech Republic. After hitting six balls, Lubbe qualified directly to quarters with a mark of 340 yards. In the pairing, Hopf (317y) and Federico (303y) went to Matchplays; and Goran Hellström (295y) fell out.
In group 2, we saw in action the pros Scott Beaven (ENG, #2 ranking), Mauro Benaglio (CH) and Jamie Kinnell (SCO), and the Italian amateur player Matteo Da Pian. Beaven was the best of the group with an incredible hit of 357 yards. The other players who qualified were: Benaglio (353y) and Kinnell (317y).
The tournament had to be abandoned for a short while due to a cloud burst and torrential rain. Encouragingly the weather picked up later, the rain stopped and there was even a patch of blue sky. The highlight in group 3 was CJ Hellström, he showed again the Swedish power with a hit of 371y that led him directly to the quarters. Also through to the next round: John McSloy (SCO, 329y), and the Italian amateur Simone Cabianca (ITA, 300y); Luigi Amira (ITA, 270y) did not go forward.
The tournament’s qualifying rounds resumed with group 4, where Joe Miller (ENG), the current #1 LDET ranking, went into action. All the players achieved good marks in this round. Miller went directly to quarter finals with a bomb of 377 yards, the longest ball of the day (reached twice). The best hits of the other players in this group: Timo Petrasch (GER, 336y) and Miguel Pérez (SPA, 305y). Pierangelo Pezzana (ITA, 294y) went out in the next round.
Italian amateur players have shown their power too. Some of them reached distances above 300 yards. The best five had the chance to play also against the professional long players. Elli Federico was the champion of this category after beating Simone Cabianca in the amateur final.
After Matchplays, the quarter finals pairings have been: Dewald Lubbe vs. Timo Petrasch , Scott Beaven vs. John McSloy , CJ Hellström vs. Mauro Benaglio and Joe Miller vs. Miguel Pérez. The best players went to the semifinals: Dewald Lubbe (best hit 324y, 2-1), Joe Miller (best hit 373, 2-0), Scott Beaven (365y, 2-1) and Mauro Benaglio (344y, 2-2). In the semifinals, the English Miller passed to the final after beating Lubbe for 2 sets to 0. Meanwhile Beaven was left behind after three tight sets to Benaglio (2 - 1).
In the big final of the sixth stop of the circuit, both players made every effort to give their best. Two long drivers have tied to one set after a first round where Miller has sent all the balls out the grid. The players have offered an amazing show and the third set was very intense.
Joe Miller won after a hit of 377 yards and gained his fifth title in his second season as a circuit LDET pro. With this victory, he is still the best and number #1 in the rankings.

20th August, POZZOLENGO.- The day before the competition the players will attend a promotional event in Cantina Bulgarini (www.vini-bulgarini.com); they have been invited to enjoy a visit to their vineyards and a tasting of their best wines: Garda Chardonnay Brut DOC (2013) , Lugana DOC 010 (2013) and Rossobruno (2012).
It will be a good opportunity to see who the best sommelier of the LDET circuit is.
ITALY LDET Championship: 22 & 23 August
Next 22nd & 23rd August will take place the ITALY LDET Championship at Chervó Golf San Vigilio in Pozzolengo. The venue is one of the best golf resorts in the world, included into the Top-20.
